This course equips NYC educators with a proactive, instruction-focused mindset to transform classroom management into a system of "Classroom Wellness." Moving beyond reactive discipline that prioritizes punishment and control, participants will learn to build a foundation of prevention by co-creating classroom norms and fostering authentic, respectful relationships with students. The course emphasizes equity by teaching educators how to design differentiated, student-centered lessons that incorporate student choice and voice, effectively eliminating the root causes of off-task behavior. This shift is designed to produce specific, observable student-level outcomes, such as increased academic stamina and reduced reliance on teacher-led redirection. By integrating restorative practices and strategies for belonging, emotional safety, and psychological security, participants will create an inclusive learning environment where every student—including students with disabilities and multilingual learners—can thrive academically and socially. Participants will engage in a multi-layered inquiry process, including a Critical Inquiry of Self to map personal cultural lenses and hidden biases. Furthermore, participants will utilize a structured Onsite Peer Consultation protocol to troubleshoot the complexities of student identity and co-construct proactive wellness strategies.
