Do I need ASPDP A+ credits or Graduate-Level credits?
It depends on your hire date and where you teach:
NYC Public Schools Teachers (+30 Differential):
- Hired on or after Sept 1, 2019: You must earn at least 18 A+ credits (6 ASPDP courses) toward your +30 salary differential. Once you meet your 18 A+ credit requirement, you can fill your remaining 12 credits using our UMass Global Graduate Courses.
- Hired Sept 1, 2017 – Sept 1, 2019: You must earn at least 6 A+ credits (2 ASPDP courses). The remaining 24 credits can be completed via standard graduate coursework.
- Hired before Sept 1, 2017: You do not have an A+ credit requirement (though you may use up to 6 A+ credits toward your differential).
Teachers Outside NYC (Long Island, Westchester, NYS): Public school districts outside NYC do not require or utilize ASPDP P-credits. To move across salary columns (MA+15, MA+30, etc.), you will need transcripted university graduate credits. Choose our UMass Global Graduate Courses for regionally accredited, transcripted semester hours.
- NYS CTLE Hours: Our ASPDP Courses issue official NYS CTLE clock hours (45 CTLE hours per 3-credit course) toward your 100-hour NYSED certificate renewal. University graduate credits through UMass Global do not issue CTLE hours.

ASPDP Courses
Each of our ASPDP-approved courses carry 3 A+ credits (or 3 P credits) for salary differentials and 45 CTLE Hours for NYSED Certificate maintenance
- Register for your Upward ASPDP course here ($110 per course)
- Register for the same course on the ASPDP portal and pay the $125 ASPDP fee to finalize your enrollment. Fall 2026 registration is open September 28 - November 16.
Earning ASPDP Credit
1. Submit
Email coursework to support@upwardteachers.com after at least one month, and before the end of the ASPDP term.
2. Evaluation
We enter your grade into the ASPDP Portal within 14 days of the end of the term.
3. Final Survey
At the end of the term, complete the DOE Survey in your account to finalize credits (Log in to your ASPDP account, click on “My Courses,” and then click “Survey”).
4. Verification
After the ASPDP audit (up to 6 weeks), your transcript is available in the platform.
Graduate-Level Courses
Regionally accredited 9000-series graduate credits for NY State school districts & NYC DOE salary differential requirements

- Complete the course and order your UMass Global transcripts for salary advancement in many NY school districts
Earning Graduate Credit
1. Submit
Email coursework to support@upwardteachers.com between one and six months from your registration date.
2. Evaluation
Upward evaluates your coursework within one week, and submits your grade to UMass Global for university processing (up to five additional business days).
3. Transcripts
Order your UMass Global transcripts.

In New York City, A+ Credits (or P Credits) are specific professional development units required to reach the MA+30 salary differential.

How long do I have to complete a Graduate-Credit course?
Because these are fully self-paced and asynchronous, you can complete your coursework anytime between 1 month and 6 months from your date of registration. Once submitted, Upward evaluates your work within 1 week and sends your final grade to UMass Global for official recording.
