Kentucky Educator Certificate Renewal

Keep Your Certificate Active—On Your Schedule

If you do not meet the classroom teaching experience requirement during your 5-year cycle, the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) requires 6 semester hours of additional graduate credit for renewal.

Two Upward courses completely satisfy this state requirement. Our courses are 100% online, self-paced, and backed by official graduate-level transcripts from our regionally accredited partner, UMass Global, ensuring your credits are accepted by the EPSB.

Kentucky Educator Salary Advancement

Kentucky school districts tie compensation directly to local "step-and-lane" salary schedules, allowing teachers to maximize their lifetime earnings by accumulating graduate-level credits. Whether you are earning post-degree credits to move into a higher pay lane (such as a Master's + 15 or Master's + 30 column) or looking for flexible options to fulfill your district's professional development goals, Upward provides an affordable path forward.

Every course awards official, graduate-level semester credits from our regionally accredited partner, UMass Global. We provide official course syllabi immediately upon request so you can easily secure district pre-approval and lock in your next salary advancement.

Kentucky Teacher FAQs: EPSB Certificate and Salary Rank Advancement

What if my school district requires pre-approval before I register?

We make pre-approval effortless. Simply contact our support team to request the official, comprehensive course syllabi for the classes you want to take.

You can hand these directly to your district administration or HR department to confirm alignment with your local "step-and-lane" advancement rules before completing your checkout.

Can I use Upward courses to change my Salary Rank (Rank III to Rank II, or Rank II to Rank I)?

No, Upward courses alone cannot be used to change your official state certification rank (such as moving from Rank III to Rank II), as the Kentucky EPSB requires a completed Master's degree or a state-approved alternative pathway program for that transition.

However, Upward courses can be used for lateral salary advancement within your school district's local pay scale.

Because salary reclassification policies are set at the local level, we highly recommend requesting an official syllabus from us to secure district pre-approval before enrolling.

How do I submit my completed Upward credits to the Kentucky EPSB?

Once you complete your asynchronous coursework, Upward reviews it within one week and submits your grade to UMass Global.

After the grade posts, you can order an official electronic transcript directly from UMass Global to be sent securely to the Kentucky Education Professional Standards Board (EPSB) via the Kentucky Educator Credentialing System (KECS).

Are Upward courses fully online and asynchronous?

Yes. Our courses are 100% online and completely asynchronous, meaning there are no set log-in times, live meetings, or rigid deadlines.

You have anywhere from one to six months from your date of registration to finish your coursework, allowing you to easily balance your professional development with a busy teaching schedule.
