Welcome, Florida educators! Upward courses offer official graduate-level credit from UMass Global, a regionally accredited university, accepted by the Florida Department of Education for certificate renewal, and in some districts, salary advancement.
FL Professional Certificate Renewal
To renew your five-year Professional Certificate in Florida, you must complete a total of six (6) semester hours (SH) of college credit (or 120 inservice points).
To satisfy the full 6 SH requirement, complete two 3-credit Upward while also earning Upward Rewards in the process.
Florida mandates the following in your renewal credits:
- 1 SH of Teaching Students with Disabilities (SWD): See Upward's SWD courses
- 2 SH of Evidence-Based Reading strategies. Be sure to enroll in EDDU 9860 when making your selection.
FL Salary Advancement
Many school districts, like Miami-Dade County Public School, accept graduate credits for the Specialist Credential pay differential, which is currently worth over $5,600 annually.
Check with your district administrator to see if Upward's graduate-level credit can advance your base salary.

Complete Coursework

Graduate Level Courses
Earning Credit
- Email your completed coursework to support@upwardteachers.com
- Upward evaluates your coursework within one week of your submission, and submits your grade to UMass Global (our accredited university partner)
- UMass Global posts your grade within five business days of receiving Upward's assessment
- You login to your UMass Global account to order your transcripts. Note that the university is an entirely separate organization from Upward, and any questions on your transcript or university account can be emailed to exed@umassglobal.edu
