Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to perform the following:
1. Increase understanding of challenging behaviors: Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the causes, functions, and patterns of challenging behaviors in students.
2. Identify the 7 phases of behavior escalation: Participants will examine phases of behavior escalation and create a plan of action and strategies to lower the risk of behavior escalation.
3. Improve student interactions using Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS): Participants will explore interventions for Tier 1 (Universal), Tier 2 (Targeted), and Tier 3 (Intensive) to reduce negative interactions with students who exhibit a variety of challenging behaviors.
4. Engage in a process called a Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA): Participants will learn how to use FBAs to gather information and develop effective Behavior Support Plans that promote a positive and supportive learning environment.
5. Reflect on challenging student interactions: Participants will analyze and reflect on their own experiences and practices in working with students exhibiting challenging behaviors.
